Tropical Storm Melissa is forecast to strengthen into a rare category five storm as it turns in the direction of the Caribbean island, bringing life-threatening rapid inundation and rock falls.

This weather system, which registered winds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is presently veering northwest in the Caribbean and is anticipated to make landfall by early next week, according to meteorological authorities.

Warnings of blackouts and damage to infrastructure have been announced as the hurricane generates up to 30 inches of rainfall and coastal flooding as high as 13ft above normal levels. "Seek shelter now," locals have been told.

This hurricane is the thirteenth hurricane in the current Atlantic hurricane season, which usually concludes in late autumn.
